Dana Anholzer, DVM

Dana Anholzer, DVM

Veterinarian

Meet Dr. Dana Anholzer! She received her bachelor’s degree in animal and veterinary science from Clemson University in 2009 and completed her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from Ross University in 2013. When she’s not working, Dr. Anholzer enjoys traveling, video games, camping, and spending time with her husband and their two dogs (Ramona and Gimli) and three cats (Piper, Richard, and Herman).

Education:

  • DVM, Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine, 2013
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Animal & Veterinary Sciences, Minor in Business, Clemson University

Areas of Special Interest:

  • Surgery – Efficient soft tissue surgeon with experience including but not limited to spays and neuters, mass removals, cystotomies, and laceration repair
  • Dentistry – Skilled in digital dental X-ray, surgical flap extractions, oral mass removals, and preventative dental care
  • Preventative Care – From puppies and kittens to senior pets and everything in between, we put a focus on the human/animal bond and individualized care.
Dr. Anholzer is also Nationally Accredited for issuing International Health Certificates for pets.
Sandy Higgins, DVM

Veterinarian

Meet Dr. Sandy Higgins! Dr. Higgins recently relocated to the Cape from Needham. After graduating from Mt. Holyoke College in 1986, she obtained her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Tufts University in 1992. Dr. Higgins has been a veterinarian locally since completing a rigorous internship at Angell Memorial Animal Hospital in 1993. She is highly experienced and skilled in medicine, surgery, and dentistry.

Dr. Higgins has practiced in the greater Boston area for over 25 years. Before joining us here at Buzzards Bay Veterinary Associates, she practiced at our sister hospital, Dedham Veterinary Associates! We’re so excited to welcome her to the Cape, and she can’t wait to meet you and your pets!

Dr. Higgins enjoys gardening, cooking, reading, and kayaking when she is not working. She shares her Needham home with two golden retrievers and a cat. She and her husband are always excited to enjoy their favorite hobby together, watching their sons play ice hockey!

Kellie joined our team in March of 2015. She graduated from Mount Ida College, where she majored in veterinary technology and became a certified veterinary technician. When not working with us, Kellie enjoys cooking, baking, being outdoors, and spending time with her two dogs and five cats!

Amelia

Amelia

Clinic and Surgical Technician

Amelia joined our team in April 2020. She is currently earning her associate’s degree in veterinary technology from Penn Foster and is planning on getting certified as a Certified Veterinary Technician after that. Besides working with small animals here at BBVA, Amelia also loves working with large animals and goats! When she’s not working or studying, she enjoys reading, baking, knitting, and spending time with her dog, Maverick, and her cat, Ajax.

Kaila

Clinic and Surgical Technician

Kaila joined our team in July of 2020. She served six years in the United States Navy. Kaila will be going to Penn Foster this fall to earn her associate’s in veterinary technology. She plans to become a Certified Veterinary Technician after that. Her hobbies outside of work include going to the gym, kickboxing, and cooking. She has two dogs, Bella, an Aussie mix, and Brewski, a German shepherd.

James

Clinic and Surgical Technician

James joined our team in May of 2021. He served 3 years in the United States Army. He is studying at New England Institute of Technology majoring in Veterinary Technology where he plans to graduate and become a certified technician in September 2021. When not working, James enjoys working on cars, playing with his two Australian cattle dogs Callie and Rowdy and spending time with his wife outdoors.

Melissa

Melissa

Clinic Technician

Melissa has been with the BBVA team since 2017. She comes to us with a Bachelor of Arts degree in conservation biology and ecology from Boston University. While earning her degree, she worked with Capuchin monkeys, who were being trained as service animals. Melissa is especially interested in small animal medicine and surgery. When she’s not working, she loves spending time with her family and friends, bird watching, and trying new foods! At home, she has three cats: George, Moe, and Harvey, and two guinea pigs: Dunks and Pats.

Katelyn

Katelyn

Clinic Technician

Katelyn joined our team in 2020. She earned her associate’s degree in general health in 2018 and is currently working on her associate’s degree in veterinary health care. When she’s not working, she enjoys hiking, yoga, and spending time with friends and family.
